Charles Drake Kellogg and his twin brother Julius Clark Kellogg were born on June 29, 1838 in Ann Arbor, Michigan. They are the twin sons of Charles Kellogg and Hannah Drake Kellogg. Their siblings are Martha Thompson Kellogg Palmer, Mary Drake Kellogg Hale, Hannah Delia Kellogg Gates, and Phebe Esther Kellogg Boyer. Charles never married. He enlisted in 21st Michigan Infantry Co. 1 at Saranac, Michigan. He and his brother-in-law Jacob Moore Hale, they were under Capt. John A Ellsworth. Their unit, 21st Michigan Infantry Regiment gathered in Ionia Michigan, went on to Cincinnati, Ohio in September 1962. From there their unity went on to Louisville, Kentucky. They then went on to joining General Sheridan's Division in the Battle of Perryville on October 8th. Were Charles was wounded at Chaplin Hills, he was taken to the Hospital in Danville, Kentucky. He died there on November 4th 1862. And was buried in the Danville National Cemetery.
