279 Private Peter James Clancy was the son of James Roche Clancy (from Limerick, Ireland) and Julie O'Connor (from Kerry, Ireland) who married in Hay, NSW in 1873. A farmer from Burketown, Burke, Queensland, Australia. He was killed in action by a gunshot wound to the chest on Zandfontein Farm, west of Magaliesberg, Transvaal (now just in North West Province). He was buried at Vlakfontein. His remains were later reinterred at Krugersdorp. He is also commemorated on the Australian War Memorial Roll of Honour, Treloar Crescent, Canberra, Australian Capital Territory, Australia;
