Decatur-Karen Suzy (Burkey) DeVore, 57, of Decatur passed away Monday, January 23, 2012 in Decatur Memorial Hospital.
Suzy was born on August 29, 1954 in Decatur, IL the daughter of Donald Frank and Gloria Dean (Williams) Burkey Sr. She worked for many years as a LPN at Primrose and Lincoln Manor. She was also a licensed cosmetologist teacher. Her dedication to her patients, co-workers, and family was second to none. She fought cancer valiantly and smiled to the end.
Surviving are her nephew/son, Chaz Burkey (Erica Clark) of Decatur; sisters, Kathy Burkey (Donna Flowers) of Decatur; Jenny Nation of Stonington; Junie "Tinker" Longbons (Jeffery) of Dalton City; brother-in-law, Thomas Brown of Decatur; nieces, Jackie, Marissa, MacKenna, Morgan, Madison, Megan, Ashley, and Andrea; and nephews, Maurice, Frankie, Jerry, Jarrod, Joel, James, Tommy Joe, Tommy, Dale, Willie, and Alex.
She was preceded in death by her, parents, one sister, Retha Joelene Burkey-Brown and one brother, Donald Frank Burkey Jr.
Funeral service to celebrate Suzy's life will be 1:00 pm Friday, January 27, 2012 in Graceland/Fairlawn Funeral Home conducted by nephew, Pastor Jarrod Longbons. Visitation will be 6-8 pm Thursday, January 26, 2012 in the funeral home. Burial will be in North Fork Cemetery. She gave the Gift of Hope by donating her beautiful brown eyes. Memorials are suggested to Chaz Burkey's College Fund.
