Colleen Abby Hawkins went to meet her Lord on Sunday, Aug. 3, 2008. She was born on Aug. 23, 1926, to Gus and Rhoda Templeton. She married Jack L. Hawkins on May 8, 1948, in Marvin United Methodist Church, where she remained a faithful member until her death. Colleen was a founding member and officer of the Susannah Wesley Class in Marvin Church. She devoted much volunteer time to the Children's Department at Marvin over the years.

Colleen completed Tyler schools, Federal Institute and Tyler Commercial College and was a lifelong resident of Tyler. After completing a career and raising her two children, Colleen took an art class and quickly discovered an artistic side she never really knew existed. She became an accomplished artist and won many awards over the remainder of her lifetime. Her oil paintings are on display all over East Texas and the Dallas area. Colleen was an active member of the Tyler Art League and East Texas Art Guild, as well as the Medical Center Auxiliary, and she enjoyed donating her time to these organizations.

Colleen was preceded in death by her parents and her older brother, Gus Hunter Templeton; Joe and Marjorie Roach of Rutherfordton, N.C., Margaret Hawkins of Tyler, Leon Hawkins of Tyler, Tim McGuire of Tyler and Walker Paine of Richardson.

Colleen is survived by her husband of 60 years, Jack L. Hawkins, and two children, Sans L. Hawkins of Tyler and Linda A. Hawkins of Denton; one brother, Rex Templeton and his wife Susie of Red Oak; other close family members, Russell and Esther Hawkins of Tyler, Bob and Melba Paine of Tyler, Joe and Ann McGuire of Tyler, Johnny and Pat Hawkins of Tyler; many beloved nieces and nephews and their families in Texas and North Carolina.

Funeral services will be held at Burks Walker Tippit Funeral Home in Tyler on Wednesday, Aug. 6, 2008, at 10 a.m. with Dr. John Robbins officiating. Family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Burial will be at Rose Hill Cemetery in Tyler.

Pallbearers will be Kim Hawkins, James Hawkins, Terry Hawkins, Alan Wilkerson and Ken Holley.

The family wishes to send a special thanks to Heart to Heart Hospice for taking such good care of Colleen as she continued to battle Parkinson's Disease. Colleen will be deeply missed by all of her loving family and friends.
