Instructor, 1882-84; ass't and assoc. prof. 1884-96; also dean since 1902, of MIT; member of several scientific societies. Overseer of Bowdoin College since 1905.
Married June 16, 1884 to Miss Gertrude Hitz of Washington (died 1896); remarried July 19, 1906, to Miss Lena Yates of Donisthorpe, Eng.
Served in capacity of draughtsman and topgrapher for U.S. Coast and Geodetic Survey, 1879-82; Was a member of the Mass. Topog. Survey Commission 1895-1900; in charge of scientific expedition to Umanak, N. Greenland, 1896; eclipse expedition to Washington, Ga., May, 1900; and 1902 in Technology Quarterly; pendulum and magnetic observations in Greenland. Home address: Newton Centre. Mass. U.S.A.
