2ND LT US ARMY AIR FORCES WORLD WAR II
STOW Robert J. Real, 80, passed away July 6, 2003 at Akron Hospice following a courageous battle with cancer.

Born Feb. 13, 1923 in Bradford, Ill., he was a member of St. John's Church and graduated from Bradford High School in 1940. He served as an officer and pilot in the Army Air Corps in World War II, was stationed in England and France, and participated in the liberation of the Buchenwald concentration camp. After the war ended, he married his high school sweetheart, Rosemary Breen, in August 1945 in their hometown of Bradford. He attend ed the University of Notre Dame on the G.I. Bill, graduating with honors as a member of the class of 1948.

In 1955, Robert and Rosemary moved to Ohio and he began a 30-year career with the department store then known as O'Neil's and currently known as Kaufmann's. Working as a manager in Barberton, Mansfield, Cuyahoga Falls, and downtown Akron, he enjoyed the many people he worked with over the years.

Family held the most interest for him, spending many vacations and trips visiting immediate and extend ed family members. Upon retirement, he and Rosemary traveled extensively, visiting many countries on different continents. A lifelong learner, he enjoyed reading and taking classes at the University of Akron and Kent State. He was a member of Holy Family Parish in Stow for 38 years.
