Pauline Carpenter Wampler, 84, of Shackleford Road, Mosheim, died Thursday morning at her home.

She was born March 17, 1924, in Claiborne County, and was a daughter of the late Estel and Maude Carpenter. In 1934, her family moved to the Mohawk community of Greene County.

Mrs. Wampler retired in 1992 from the Greene County School System cafeteria staff after 38 years, having served as cafeteria manager of Mosheim School and West Greene High School.

She was a member of Mosheim Central United Methodist Church, the United Methodist Women, the Mosheim Ruritan Club ,and was a life member of Mosheim Chapter No. 292, the Order of Eastern Star, where she was the second oldest member having been a member for 61 years.

Mrs. Wampler was a volunteer at the Mosheim Outreach Center.

Her family provided the following statement: "Pauline lost her courageous battle with multiple mylomia surrounded by her family and caregivers whom she loved so much. Her strong faith and belief in Christ provided her courage to fight her hard battle and gave her much comfort.

"Pauline will be missed by many, especially those who fondly remember her love and excellent cooking ability for students, farm workers, and community members.

"She was happiest when she was gardening, quilting or involved in church activities - always thinking of others first.

" 'Mamaw' looked forward to daily visits from her family, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren to provide love, comfort, encouragement and entertainment. She always had the time to witness to them and encourage healthy habits."

She was the widow of Jed C. Wampler, who died March 30, 1994.

Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law: Brenda Jane and Bill Hurst of Blountville; one son and daughter-in-law: Doug and Janet Wampler of Mosheim; two grandchildren: Chad Wampler and his wife, Angie, of Mosheim, and Scott Hurst of Kingsport; four great-grandchildren: Tyler Wampler, Zachary Wampler, Austin Wampler, and Spencer Hurst; two stepgranddaughters: Emilee Harbin and Megan Harbin; one sister: Margaret Bollinger of Newburg, Ore.; one sister-in-law: Rachel Carpenter of Greeneville; four nieces; one nephew; special friends and caregivers: Sherry Conner, Pat Franklin, Phyllis Day, Cindy Puckett, Angie Wampler, Janet Wampler, Kaye Ellenburg, Doris Holt and Janet Weems.

She was preceded in death by a brother: Clarence Carpenter; and by an aunt, Josie Carpenter, who raised her after the death of her mother.

The family will receive friends from 3-7 p.m. Saturday at Rose Hill Funeral Home and other times at the home.

The funeral service will follow visitation at 7 o'clock in the funeral home chapel. The Rev. Richard Long will officiate and Mosheim Chapter No. 292, the OES will conduct an Eastern Star service.

A committal service will be held at 2 o'clock Sunday afternoon in Mount Pleasant Cemetery. Family and friends will meet at the funeral home at 1:15 p.m. to go in procession to the cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Tommy Ellenburg, Tom Carpenter, Todd Ellenburg, Clint Ricker, Kenny Glasscock, Ronnie Colyer, Charles Elmer Ellenburg, Terry Pruitt, and Terry Chappell.

Honorary pallbearers will be the members of the Mosheim Ruritan Club, Mosheim Chapter No. 292 OES, and the Mosheim Central UMW; the staff of First Responders of Midway, the EMS staff at Mosheim Station, the members of Middle Adult Sunday School Class of Mosheim Central Church, the nurses and staff of Laughlin Home Health and Caris Healthcare, Dr. Dharmen Patel and his staff, Dr. Mandeep Bakshi and his staff, Dr. James Rodgers and his staff; and Martha Bible, Ethel Davis, and Doris Wisecarver
