First Trustee Of Church Of God Dies Tuesday
D. O. Hamilton, 94, of 326 Leonard Court, died at 1 :30 p.m. yesterday at Garrard County Memorial Hospital, where he had been since April 1, 1971.
Born Sept. 16, 1877 in Sloans Valley, Pulaski County, he was the son of the late Thomas E. and Sarah Lewis Hamilton. He resided in Danville since 1910 and was an employe of Southern Railway for 47 years, with 39 of those years as conductor. He was a member of the B. and R.T. and Order of Railway Conductors.
A charter member of the First Church of God here, he housed the minister in his home for over a year when the congregation was first organized and was appointed their first trustee. He also served on the board of ushers continually for some 15 years. He is survived by his wife, Mrs.Gertrude Davis Hamilton; a daughter, Mrs. D.L. (Linelle) Cushing, Jackson Mississippi; a son, J Kern Hamilton, Los Gatos, California; brother, Sam Hamilton, Somerset: and two granddaughters.
Funeral services will conducted at 2 p.m. tomorrow at Stith Funeral Home by Rev. D. Westerfield with Rev. Wayne Edie assisting. Burial will be in Bellevue Cemetery.
Friends may call at the Funeral Home after 7 o'clock tonight. The family request expressions of sympathy take the form of donations to the Danville-Boyle County Rescue Squad.
