Daughter of Alexander Crawford (emigrated from Scotland) and Mary McPheeters Crawford, who were both killed by Indians when all of their children were very young; the children were left to be orphans and went to live with various families in the area; Martha went to live with Samuel McCutcheon and his family until she married; Samuel McCutcheon was the legal Guardian for Martha.

Martha's siblings are: James, Margaret, John, William, Alexander, Rebecca, Elizabeth, Samuel, Robert and Mary Crawford (who died at a young age); most of them married and some moved to other states.

Wife of Alexander Craig, whom she married in 1780; Alexander fought as a Captain in the Revolutionary War.

It is said that they had many children, most of whom moved west, except son Robert Craig, who died in Craigsville in 1872.

"Lebanon Church was organized in 1784 at the home of William Hodge. The first elders were WILLIAM YOUELL, ALEXANDER CRAIG, John Montgomery, John McCutchen, Joseph McCutchen, and SAMUEL McCUTCHEON. The first meeting house stood close to the Augusta line, the second a half-mile to the south and in Rockbridge. As a consequence there are two cemeteries."

Buried beside her Husband in the Old Lebanon Cemetery in Craigsville, Augusta County, Virginia.

*Note: Martha's brother, Lt. John Crawford, was married to Sally Newman, the sister of Catherine Newman Wallace, wife of James Wallace and Mother of Russell Newman Wallace; Russell's 1st wife, Rachel Armstrong Wallace, is also buried in this cemetery, along with her Armstrong family and some members of her McCutcheon and Hodge family; most of the people who are buried in this small cemetery are related to one another by blood or by marriage.*
