Phil was born on Oct. 14, 1941, in Nampa, Idaho. He attended schools in Rupert. At the age of 17, he joined the U.S. Navy, in which he served from 1958-65. He moved to California, where he worked for the United Parcel Service, and drove truck for many years before returning to Rupert in 1974.
His last job, and to quote him, "his best job," was at Rupert Iron Works, where he worked until poor health caused him to retire.
Survivors include two sons, Allen (Alicia) Washington of Burley, Phillip C. (Wynonna) Washington of Rupert; two sisters, Bonny Easton of Rupert, Julia Anderson Gartner of California; adopted sister, Willah Dixon of Rupert.
He was expecting his first grandchild in September. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Geo. and Hazel Brisbin; his parents, Henry Clay Washington, Wilda J. Anderson, his stepfather, Ralph W. Anderson; and two sisters, Hazel Gudgel and Vera Miller.
At Phil's request, there will not be any formal services. A memorial graveside service with urn placement for close friends and family will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, March 16, 2012, at the Rupert Cemetery with military honors provided by Mini-Cassia veterans. Cremation and graveside services are under the direction of Morrison Funeral Home and Crematory in Rupert.
