JOS. W. SWAN DIES AT HOME IN THIS CITY
Funeral Services at Union Church Friday Afternoon

Joseph William Swan, 80, died at
his home in this city Wednesday morning
at 4 o'clock, having been in declining
health for some months past.
The funeral services will be held at
the Union church at 2 o'clock Friday
afternoon, conducted by the Rev. W.
J. Giffin. The interment will be at
Elmwood cemetery. Walter Swan and
wife of Britt, Iowa, Mrs. P. A. Yohe of
Stuttgart, Ark., and Mrs. Warren
Swan of Crystal Lake, Iowa, have been
here during his last illness.
Mr. Swan, son of James M. and
Nancy A. Rouse Swan, was born
southeast of Morning Sun, Iowa, on
the homestead preempted by his
parents, now owned and occupied by
C. A. Peterson and family. He was
united in marriage to Miss Diana
Paisley of Athens county, Ohio, June
29, 1871. The widow, two daughters
and five sons are living: Mrs. P.
A. Yohe of Stuttgart, Ark., Mrs. C.
A. Peterson of Morning Sun, Warren
Swan of Crystal Lake, Iowa, Wallace
Swan of Clinton, Iowa, Walter Swan
of Brill, Iowa, Guy Swan of Mediapolis,
and Clinton Swan of Sioux City.
Sixteen grandchildren and fourteen
great-grandchildren are also living.
Mr. Swan was the last of a family
of ten children, and his entire life had
been spent in this community. He
lived on the old homestead several
years, and of late years was a resident
of Morning Sun, and served the
town in various official capacities.
He was a faithful member of the
Presbyterian church in this city, of
which his father was one of the or-
ganizers. He enjoyed a large
acquaintanceship.
