JANESVILLE - Violet E. Osborn, 91, a lifelong Janesville area resident, passed away early Sunday morning, Aug. 29, 2004, at Haven House. She was born on March 1, 1913, in Newville, WI. She was married to Laurence A. Schmeling; he preceded her in death in February, 1945. She later married Earl Osborn on Oct 14, 1950; he preceded her in death. Violet was employed for many years as a court reporter for Rock County, mostly working with Judge Gunn. She also took depositions and transcribed for the District Attorney's Office and for private law firms. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Chapter #63, Edgerton, and had been a past worthy matron. She had also been a member of the White Shrine, Janesville, and was a past member of the Southern Wisconsin Woman's Auxiliary. She was a member of Cargill United Methodist Church, Janesville.

Violet is survived by her daughter, Geraldine (Richard) Dallman of Janesville; her son, Richard (Karen) Schmeling of Edgerton; her 2 step-sons, Donald (Char) Osborn of Laramie, WY, and Kenneth (Linda) Osborn of Janesville; her 10 grandchildren: Greg, Gwen, Ginger, Kari, Renee, Dawn, Kim, Kelly, Julie, and Sandy; her 20 great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, and friends. In addition to her husbands, she was preceded in death by her parents; 4 sisters: Hazel, Myrtle, Bernice, and Jessie; and 2 brothers, George Husen and Lawrence Husen.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 2, 2004, at Cargill United Methodist Church, 2000 Wesley Ave., with Rev. Karen Knutson officiating. Burial will take place in Oak Hill Cemetery. Friends may call on Thursday morning from 9:30 until 11:00 a.m. at the church, where an Order of the Eastern Star service will take place at 10:00 a.m.
