Birch B Smeltzer, 64, of 208 West Cleveland ave, Elkhart, died August 22 of a heart attack while in a physician's office in Elkhart. He had been in failing health for several weeks.

A baker for many years, Mr Smeltzer at one time owned the Wakarusa bakery. He left Wakarusa about twenty-five years ago going to Elkhart and had been employed as a baker at the Hossick bakery for a number of years.

He was born October 1, 1885 Wakarusa, the son of Daniel and Ida May Smeltzer.

He was married to Fern Stemm in Elkhart on May 9, 1925.

Surviving besides the widow, are two sisters, Mrs Ira (Olive) Eshleman of Elkhart. Mrs Hazel Yarian of Nappanee and three brothers, Dale Don, and Dewey all of Elkhart.

Funeral services were held last Thursday at 3 pm at the Walley funeral home in Elkhart. Rev S A Wells of the Castle E U B church in charge. Burial was in Prairie Street cemetery.
