"Golden Wedding Day for Leo Boxbergers". Mr. and Mrs.Leo Boxberger, will be honored by their nieces and nephews with a reception at the Elks Lodge on June 15. They were married June 15, 1925 at the Russell Co. courthouse by Judge Dean S. Landon. She was the former Lydia Stricker, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Stricker of Bender Hill, and Leo is the son of G.J. Boxberger......The couple has spent their married life on the farm 3 miles south of town which was his parents' homeplace. They set up housekeeping with his parents and the following year the parents moved to Russell. His mother died in 1938 and his father in 1959. Leo has lived on the farm for 64 years. He was born on the prior homeplace 8 1/2 miles south and 1 mile west near Bender Hill.

Leo Boxberger, son of George J. and Magdelena (Maier) Boxberger, was born January 12, 1903 in Russell County, Kansas. His death occurred on March 27, 1986 at the age of 83 years, 2 months and 5 days.

Leo lived all his life in the Russell area, received his basic education in the rural school near the family home, and moved with his family at the age of seven, to the home he was living in.

On June 14, 1925, Leo was united in marriage to Lydia Stricker at Russell, Kansas, and they continued to make their home south of Russell until his death. In 1985 they had celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary.

Leo was a member of the St. John Lutheran Church of Russell, where he had been baptized, and later confirmed as a child and young adult. He also was a member of the Russell Elks Lodge and the Moose Lodge at Salina.

Most of his working life was occupied with his lifetime career as a farmer and stockman. He was also very active as a builder and carpenter, working with his brother for many years. He also helped with the building construction at the Walker Air Base during World War II. Besides his farming and cattle, Leo was involved in the area oil activities during his life.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Emanuel and Edward Boxberger. Survivors are his wife, Lydia, of the home; brothers, William G. and Ben Boxberger; sisters, Minnie Morgenstern, Lena Becker, and Mrs. Harold (Lydia) Krug, all of Russell. Another very importance part of his family were his many nieces and nephews, all of whom occupied a very special spot in his life.
