Asa was the eighth and last child of Asa and Temperance (Pelton) Andrews. His father died in 1830 and his mother married Hiram Caldwell sometime before 1840. Asa may have left New Hartford at an early age to live with Albert and Sarah Barnes (his sister) in Delaware County, NY. He probably came to Granville Summit with them in 1846.
Asa and Dorleska Kenyon were married about 1857.
Asa is a direct descendant of William Andrews, one of the original founders of Hartford and its first schoolmaster.
