American Architect. Isaac Rapp learned his trade from his father while living in Carbondale, Illinois. In 1889 he moved to Trinidad, Colorado and with a partner, C. W. Bulger, he formed the firm of Bulger and Rapp. When that firm dissolved just a few years later he joined with his brother, William Mason Rapp, and created the firm Rapp and Rapp. Together and with a principal partner, Arthur C. Hendrickson, Rapp and Rapp designed and built many of the public buildings of Northern New Mexico and Southern Colorado. Isaac Rapp became known as “The Creator of the Santa Fe style,” a form of architecture still popular in the American Southwest today. In New Mexico, Rapp and Rapp designed and built the Chaves County Courthouse in Roswell, the La Fonda Hotel in Santa Fe, the New Mexico Military Institute in Roswell, and the Mew Mexico Museum of Art in Santa Fe. In Colorado, Rapp and Rapp designed and built many buildings in the Trinidad area that are registered on the National Register of Historic Places today including the Zion’s German Lutheran Church, the First Baptist Church, the Nichols House, East Street School, the Huerfano County High School, and the First Christian Church.
