Sarah was born January 11, 1917 in American Fork to Stephen T. Shelley and Hazel S. Shelley. She was the oldest child with a younger sister, Virginia, and younger brother, Paul, both of whom she adored deeply. She attended school in American Fork and graduated from American Fork High at the age of sixteen.
She attended Brigham Young University, where she studied English and French. This love of language and literature stayed with her throughout her life. She loved poetry, literature and language and was an eloquent, beautiful writer of prose and poetry.
Sarah married Raymond S. Chadwick on June 9, 1941 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. They were a devoted, loving couple for sixty-seven years. Their children and their spouses are Raymond and Lanette Chadwick of Layton and Shelley and Jeff Blakeley of Logan. They have five grandchildren, eleven step-grandchildren, and fifteen step great-grandchildren. Their marriage has been a long and happy one and they have always been sweethearts.
Sarah was a beautiful, sensitive intelligent woman. She had a phenomenal memory and was a prolific reader. She taught us to be tolerant, open-minded, compassionate, and kind. She loved the finer things in life-literature, music, poetry, and art. She was an independent thinker and an avid seeker of knowledge. We have been blessed by her example of love and devotion.
Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 10, 2012 in the American Fork Cemetery, 26 West 600 North, American Fork, Utah.
