Margaret Elizabeth Jordan, daughter of Samuel Jordan Esq. and the former Mary Ravlin Ansley, was born the 4th day of December 1847 near Cedar Springs, South Carolina. Margaret was one of eight children.

On May 17, 1866 Margaret Jordan married Capt. John Carson Lyon, son of Thomas Jefferson Lyon and the former Miss Margaret Carson Wideman of Troy, South Carolina. The two families were good friends and both members of Cedar Springs A.R.P. church. Margaret and Capt. Lyon had five children:

Alfred "Alph" Lyon (1871 – 1942)
Dr. John Lyon (1874 – 1920)
Mary Margaret "May" [Lyon] Bradley (1876 – 1947)
Thomas Jordan Lyon (1879 – 1928)
Josephine Sloan [Lyon] McMurray (1881 – 1958)

Margaret Elizabeth Jordan Lyon departed this life on July 14th 1916 at the age of 68. She was laid to rest beside her husband of 40 years, Capt. John Lyon in the family plot at Melrose Cemetery.
