VEGA - John Hobbs, 68, died Friday, Feb. 27, 2004.

Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in Christ Community Fellowship Church with Craig Solomon and Donnie Allred officiating. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd.

Mr. Hobbs was born in Gainesville. Except for a brief time when he worked for the telephone company bringing service up the West Coast, he spent his life working ranches including the Rafter O ranch, Tom Green's ranch, LS ranch and Mansfields, all in Oldham County, and Montgomery ranch in Crowell. Over the course of his life he managed the HH ranch near Magdalena, Pacheco ranch near Clayton, N.M., and RB ranch near Crowell. He trained cutting horses on the Binford ranch and broke and trained many good horses for himself and other individuals. He rode broncos in Pierre, S.D.

He was a talented artist and guitarist. He married Sharon Harwell on Feb. 27, 1954, in Tucumcari, N.M.

Survivors include his wife; three daughters, Karen Wagner of Vega, Gina Gregory of Amarillo and Nancy Magaret and husband, David, of Canyon; three brothers, Skip Hobbs of Cameron, Bill Hobbs of Amarillo and Sam Hobbs of Royal, Ark.; four sisters, Thelma Armstrong of Frederick, Okla., Sally Fletcher of Realto, Calif., Anne Daniels of Vernon and Judy Laughery of Seguin; seven grandchildren, Keri James, Cheryl Tullos, Donna Kisch, Hobbs Magaret, Christen Magaret, Noel Gregory and Sawyer Gregory; five great-grandchildren, Caleb Pipes, Keevan Tullos, Tristen James, Trevor James and Karen Kisch.

The family suggests memorials be to Christ Community Fellowship Church.

Visitation will be from noon to 7 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. to noon on Monday at the Vega Funeral Home and at Karen Wagner's residence, south of Vega.
