Rites Saturday For Area Hero

DUNKIRK, June 10 - The body of Pvt. John M. Swanger, 19, will arrive in Dunkirk at 8 p.m. Friday and be taken to the Keiper funeral home. The Veterans of Foreign Wars will have charge of military services in Dunkirk cemetery at 2 p.m. Saturday. Private Swanger was killed in action in Africa, Nov. 27, 1943, shortly after the start of the U.S. invasion. A son of Leland and Grace Swanger, he was born in Williamstown, Dec. 1, 1923. He is survived by his parents of Dunkirk, a son, John M. Swanger, Jr., Wilmington, N.C.; two sisters, Mrs. Ralph McKee, Toledo; Mrs. Nile Aurand, Mt. Blanchard; a brothers, Lauren, Maumee, and a grandmother, Mrs. John Swanger, Dunkirk. (The Lima News, Lima, OH, Thursday, June 10, 1948, p. 2, Col. 2)
