EUNICE MARY DeKEYSER, 99, of St. Ignace, was a St. Ignace business owner with her husband for many years. Mrs. DeKeyser died Thursday evening, June 17, 2010, at Mackinac Straits Health System in St. Ignace.

She was born February 23, 1911, in Algoma, Wisc., to Alex and Leona (nee Macceaux) Bodart. The family is of Belgian descent.

She graduated from High School and married George DeKeyser August 31, 1932, in Fairland, Wisc. They lived in Manatowoc, WI. where he was a Kaiser-Fraser dealer, and she was a bookkeeper and Secretary. They came to St. Ignace in 1953 and owned George's Body Shop and Salvage Yard and AAA Wrecker Service, where she also worked as Secretary and bookkeeper.

Mrs. DeKeyser was a founding member of the St. Ignace Business and Professional Women and a member of the American Legion Auxiliary in Florida. She was a member of the St. Ignatius Loyola Catholic Church. She apent more than 20 years at Pine Island in the winter. She was a quilter and loved crafts.

In good health all her life, Mrs. DeKeyser lived in her own home until going to the hospital Thursday evening with apparent heart problems.

She is survived by two sons and their families, James & Leona DeKeyser and Pat and Deana DeKeyser, all of St. Ignace; A daughter, Terri and Neil Hill of St. Ignace; 21 grandchildren; and 38 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, George, September 10, 2001; a son, Mark in 2000; a son Norman, in 2004; two grandsons, Daryl in 1969 and Greg in 2006; and a brother, Neuman, who died serving World War II during a night flight as a navigator.

Visitation was Tuesday June 22 from 9am to 11am at St. Ignatius Loyola Catholic Church. Mass of Christian burial was at 11am with Father Pawel Mecwel and Deacon Don Olmstead officating. Burial will be in the St. Ignatius Cemetery beside her husband.
