Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Thursday, May 28, in the Florence Memorial Gardens Mausoleum Chapel, directed by Waters-Powell Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. Thursday at the mausoleum.
He was born in New Bern, N.C., a son of the late Admiral Dewey Waters Sr. and Betty Waters. He graduated from Roanoke Rapids High School and was drafted in the U.S. Army soon thereafter. He served in World War II. He retired from the Army National Guard after achieving the rank of Lt. Col.
A resident of Florence since 1974, Mr. Waters was retired from the U.S. Postal Service.
Mr. Waters attended Parkland Baptist Church in Florence. He was also the Director of the 6th District Postal Credit Union.
A loving and devoted family man, he is survived by a son, A. Dewey (Marsha) Waters III of Irmo; two daughters, Mary Arleen Waters of Florence and Eva Delores (Randall) Coleman of Dillon; four grandchildren, Admiral Dewey Waters IV, Brandie (Chad) Hyatt, Dusty Coleman, and Dakota Coleman; three great-grandchildren, Abigail Wallace, Hunter Hyatt and Ericca Hyatt.
He was predeceased by his wife, Mary Westbrook Waters, and a brother, Walter Clyde Waters.
