"F. A. Conard, one of the pioneer residents of Rush County, died at the home of his son, L. H. Conard, northwest of Larned, Monday morning. He had been in failing health for the past year, with Bright's disease and complications. He was aged 72 years and 9 months.
The funeral services were held from the Pleasant Hill Church Wednesday afternoon at 2:30, and were conducted by Rev. Byers. Interment was in the Ash Valley cemetery.
Franklin Asbury Conard was born in Jackson County, Mo., July 22, 1854. He was married to Ella Shelby, December 15, 1874. He felt the call of the west, and came with his family to Rush county in an early day, and experienced the difficulties of the pioneers.
Early in life he united with the Methodist church. Patient and considerate throughout his lingering illness, he often expressed himself ready to go. He was a member of the I.O.O.F. and Masonic orders.
Mr. Conard came to Rush county over forty years ago, and he and his family were prominent in the development of that county, being among the large wheat farmers in the state.
Mr. Conard's wife died in 1906. Some four years ago he purchased a residence in Larned at Twelfth and Main, where he lived until the past few months, when he had made his home with his son. He is survived by seven children: Mrs. John Nelson of Pawnee county, Elmer Conard, L. H. Conard, and Bert Conard of Rush county, J. C. Conard of Hutchinson, Mrs. Arthur Cuthbertson of Sterling, and Mrs. Leon Rothweiler of Wilmore, Ky. Also by two brothers and one sister, J. J. Conard of La Crosse, Kan., R. H. Conard of Pasaic, Mo., and Mrs. Lilly Earhart of Lansing, Kan."
