After the Revolutionary War, Daniel lived on McKee's Creek and Reedy Creek, north of the headwaters of McAlphine Creek. After his first wife Martha died, Daniel married a young widow, Prudence Alexander, who lived on a ridge that divided the head waters of Clark Creek and Mallard Creek, in North Mecklenburg County. He then bought his farm on McDowells Creek, near Huntersville, where his decendants still live, and sold his land where he and Martha Black had lived. Prudence was previously married to a distant cousin, Andrew Alexander. Her parents were James and Rachel Alexander, and her first child (daughter of Andrew) was named Rachel. Daniel's will indicates that he looked on her as his own daughter.
