Elizabeth Joanne Sexton was born September 5, 1929 in Crocker South Dakota, to Laurel and Emma (Miller) Sexton. "Betty Jo" as she was affectionately known, was one of nine children. The names of her eight siblings are; Deette Byer, James, Beverly Thompson, Geraldine Cochrane, Richard, John, Robert, & Connie Amy.

After completing High School, Betty Jo & DeLyle "Beezie" Fordyce left Watertown circa 1950, and moved to the greater Los Angeles area of California. They were later married in the town of Ventura, California on November 16, 1952. Betty Jo & Beezie went on to raise five children whose names are; Cynthia Carranza, Diane Todd, Michael, Patrick, & Brian. In addition to being a housewife and raising five children, Betty Jo also worked for more than 20 years at Star Optical.

In the late 1980's, with her children now grown, Betty Jo returned to Watertown to help care for her elderly mother, Emma. At that time Betty Jo also began a new career, working for Wal-Mart where she worked for the next 20 years.

In 2008 Betty Jo's health began to fail her, and she was in need of full time care and support. She was placed into the wonderful care of the folks at Golden Living Center in Lake Norden, South Dakota. It was there that she peacefully enjoyed the final 3 ½ years of her life.

Betty Jo was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and six of her siblings.

She is survived by two of her siblings, Deette Byer and Connie Amy who still reside in Watertown; all five of her children; five grandchildren, Rebecca, Matthew, Christina, Jason & Kyle; and two great grandchildren, Annalia & Adam.
