Samuel Joseph Akers, 63 years of age, of New Castle passed away Tuesday March 16, 2010 at his home.
He was born November 15, 1946 in Henry County, Indiana to the late Raymond and Mildred (Meer) Akers.
Mr. Akers was hired on at Chrysler 6-6-1966 as a machinist in New Castle where he retired in 2003. He had also worked at Allison Gas Turbine in Indianapolis. His avid hobby was collecting and restoring International Tractors. He loved being at home with his family and traveling to tractor shows and being with his dogs.
Survivors include: wife of 43 years Vickie (Conner) Akers of New Castle, Indiana. 5 Children: Samuel Joseph (Melody) Akers II-New Castle, Dawn Rene Leece-Michigan, Tiffanie Michelle (Carl) Vaughan-Anderson, Indiana, Shawn David (Stephanie) Leece-New Palestine, Indiana, Joshawa Alan (Cara) Leece-New Castle; 9 grandchildren: Alisha Sue (Donald) Akers , Joseph Raymond Leece, Samantha Bentley Vaughan, Crystle Ann Vaughan, Megan Nichole Vaughan, Dustin T. Gribbons, Misty Dawn Gribbons, Corey Colwell, Samuel Dale Leece; 2 great grandchildren, Bella Nicole Thomas and Issac Allan Lynch.
Funeral Services will be Saturday March 20, 2010 at 10:00 am at Condo and Son Funeral Home in Wilkinson, Indiana with Pastor Jeff Johnson officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home Friday March 19, 2010 from 4-8 PM. Burial will be at Green Hills Memory Gardens in New Castle, Indiana.
