The deceased was well and favorably known, having been a resident of Marthaville for 15 years prior to his moving to the farm. He was a Methodist in religion and a Conserative in politics.
He was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Saunders, and was born in Brooke Township in 1851. In 1876 he married Sarah Jane, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Lucas, Brooke.
He is survived by his wife, three sons and two daughters: Wallace living in Borneo, Fred living in Egypt, Oscar at home, Mrs. Robert Hall and Mrs. Wilson Butler of 12th con. east, Enniskillen.
The funeral was held on Monday the 9th June and was largely attended. Interment took place in Hillsdale cemetery, Petrolia, Ont. The pallbearers were Messrs Jacob, Daniel and Thomas Saunders, nephews, John, Thomas and Walter Lucas, brothers-in-law.
