B.B. was the son of John and Lucinda (Kimball) Rockwood. His mother died when he was only seven years old . At the age of twelve he made a journey west with his father. They settled near Ringwood, McHenry County, Illinois. Here they brought under cultivation a large and valuable farm.

In 1851 he made the trip overland to California. This trek, with oxen pulling a wagon, took many months. He mined in the northern districts for several years. In 1857 he returned, via Panama, to Illinois.

Once again he headed west in 1859. This time stopping in Kansas, near Neodesha in Wilson County. He engaged in farming and stock-raising.

He married Angeline Doran, 26 Sept 1860, Deer Creek Township, Allen County, Kansas. Four children were born to this marriage;

2. Emma b-1864, d-1870

About fifteen years later the west seemed to call again. This time the family settled in San Diego County, California. Within a year his wife died.

He moved his family to San Pasqual Valley in 1881. They settled on a ranch in the east end of the Valley. This location was later dubbed Rockwood Canyon and is still called that today. He was a rancher and was well known for his fine horses. He was a good neighbor and was held in high esteem by them.
