Mr. Alfred S. Hancuff, a well know resident of Catharine Township, died at his home, near the Yellow Springs, on Wednesday morning. The deceased was the son of John and Elizabeth Hancuff and was born at the Beaver Dams in 1835, being at death 73 years, 1 month and 6 days old. The cause of death was apoplexy and infirmities of advanced years. During the sixties the deceased was united in marriage to Mary A. Sorrick of Morrison's Cove, the ceremony being performed by Rev. Berlin of the Williamsburg Lutheran Church. To the union one son and two daughters were born namely, Mrs. Lizzie Craine of Juniata; Herbert V. Hancuff of Williamsburg; and Annie Hancuff at home. Besides the above named children, the deceased leaves one brother and one sister to mourn the death.

By occupation the deceased was a carpenter and worked many years ago for the Pennsylvania Canal and Pennsylvania Railroad Company on construction work. In politics he was a Democrat of the Jeffersonian sort and for many long years was a member of the Yellow Springs Lutheran Church. By marriage the families of Mr. John M. Sorrick and Mr. George Aurandt were near relatives of the deceased, which named families were frequent visitors to the home of the deceased in Canoe Valley.

Yesterday morning the funeral occurred from the late home of the deceased, the services being held at the house by Rev. J.B. Umberger of the Williamsburg Lutheran Church. Following the services the remains were interred in the Yellow Springs Lutheran Cemetery. This death removes from Canoe Valley one of its oldest residents, who was known by almost every one in his home township and the townships surrounding.
