Alexander was born to Samuel Peden and Lydia Potter at Lancaster County, PA. as all his siblings were. He grew up with his siblings, Obediah, Samuel, Lydia, Joseph and Isaac Peden.

Alexander became an outstanding Quaker preacher and scholar. He married Lydia Thomas on Dec. 23rd, 1790 at a Quaker Monthly Meeting. One child Thomas Peden was born to this union on Jan. 22nd, 1792. Lydia died at age 35, leaving 5 yr. old Thomas.

Alexander then married Abigail Walton on Jan. 5th 1797. She came from a Quaker family. To this union nine children were born, Lydia, Ann, Obadiah, Jesse, Darius, Joseph, Rachel, Alexander and Margaret Peden.

Quaker church records show Alexander, dismissed on Feb. 26, 1824 and no cause stated. Perhaps this was the date of his death. Did the Quakers show people as dismissed when they died?
