Services Held Monday for Burl Landess, Sr.
Burl Landess, Sr. , 61, well known Andrew county auctioneer, died last Friday afternoon at his farm northeast of Savanna after suffering a gunshot wound. Sheriff Dean Boyles said the body of Mr. Landess was found by Curtis Taylor, who worked for the auctioneer. The body was discovered near a gate on the farm. Coroner Dr. W. E. Maxwell assisted in the investigation of the accident. Evidence indicated Mr. Landess was struck in the head by a bullet from his shotgun. The gun was apparently propped against a fence. As Mr. Landess climbed over the gate, the gun accidentally fell and was fired.
Mr. Landess owned and operated the Community Sale Barn on Highway 71 in northwest Savannah.
He is survived by his wife Mrs. Frances Landess of the home; a son Burl Landess, Jr. of Savannah; a brother Sam Landess of San Ysidro, Calif. And two sisters, Mrs. George Cole and Mrs. Mattie Proffit both of Fillmore. Funeral services were held April 12, at the Fillmore Church of God with Rev. Don Lewis officiating with interment in the Fillmore Cemetery.
