The son of Samuel & Martha (Bradley) Munson, he married Esther Mix in 1710 in New Haven Colony.

He was a locksmith by trade and was active in the First Church as well as holding civil and military positions in New Haven.

On March 16, 1720, Theopholis donated one acre of land for the benefit of Yale College. Sixteen others contributed enough to make up 40 acres. This is the land on which the Campus is now located.
