Service for Mr. James Porter will be held July 24, 2011 @ Bethel Baptist Church in Greenfield, TN. with burial to follow in Hornbeak Cemetery also in Greenfield. Mr. James's visitation will be July 23, 2011 @ Williams Funeral Home from 5 til 8 p.m. in Greenfield, TN. He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years Mrs. Shirley Stout Porter of Greenfield, TN., one son, Mr. Joe Porter of Greenfield, TN., one daughter, Mrs. Jamie (Mark) Prince of Martin, TN. Five Grandchildren, Candice(Ty) Finney of Dresden, TN., Brock(Lanae)Porter of Greenfield, TN., Andrew(Candace)Porter of Greenfield, TN., Kasey Prince of Nashville, TN., & Clay Prince of Naples Florida and Six great grandchildren. One brother, Mr. Jack Porter of Greenfield, TN. He was preceded in death by his parents Reverand A.W. & Helen Porter, four brothers, Chester, Ray, George, & Gene Porter, two sisters, Marie Scholes & Helen Bryant. Mr. James with his brother Jack were owners & operators of Akin & Porter Produce Company. He was a veteran of United States Army serving from 1953 til 1955. He was a former director and chairman of the board of First State Bank. He also served on the Weakley County Commission in the 1970's. He was a long time member of Bethel Baptist Church where he served as a deacon and a teacher of the adult men sunday school class. He also was a director of the Tennessee Baptist Foundation Board. The Family ask that in lieu of flowers all donations maybe be made to the Baptist Children Home, Gideon International or the American Cancer Society.
