WILLIAM JACKSON KENT, 71, of 1338 French St., Wilmington, died Sunday of heart failure in Riverside Hospital.

Mr. Kent was the first black iron worker hired in 1974 under a new apprentice program with Iron Workers Union Local 451, Elsmere, a family member said. He retired in 1984.

He was a member of St. Patrick's Senior Center.

His wife, Miriam, died in 1985. He is survived by a daughter, Lorraine Kent and two sisters, Zella Lee and Audrey Faulkner, all of Wilmington, and two granddaughters.

Services will be at noon today in J. Llewellyn Bell Memorial Chapel, 4201 Washington St., where firends may call at 11 a.m. Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery, 33rd and North Market streets.
