BENNINGTON - Catherine C. Ballance, 76, died March 9, 2002, at the Bennington Health and Rehabilitation Center after a long illness. She was born in Middlebury April 21, 1925, the daughter of James J. and Nora (Foster) Cannavan. She was a graduate of Bennington High School.
Mrs. Ballance worked as a nurse's aide at area nursing homes. She also did private duty nursing. She was employed at Washington Elms until the time of her illness. She married Maurice R. Ballance July 17, 1943. He died in 1968.
Mrs. Ballance was a life member of both the American Legion Post 13 Auxiliary and VFW Post 1332 Auxiliary. Survivors include two sons, both of Bennington; two sisters, Margaret Sweet of Bennington and Mary Lou Davis of Cheshire, Mass; three grandchildren; four great-granddaughters; nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews and cousins.
She was predeceased by a son, Ronald W. Ballance, and by two brothers, Bernard Cannavan and John Cannavan.
The funeral will be held at the Mahar & Son Funeral Home Tuesday at 10 a.m. with Pastor Robert Lebert of Harvest Christian Ministries officiating. Burial will take place in Park Lawn Cemetery. Friends may call at the Mahar & Son Funeral Home today from 7 to 9 p.m.
