James Thomas Herring, retired Jackson township farmer, died at 11:10 o'clock Thursday night at the Chillicothe hospital, where he had been a patient one day. He had been in failing health several years and seriously ill one week. A son of George Washington Herring and Melvina (Long) Herring, he was born Oct. 30, 1886, in Jackson township. With the exception of five years in Bucklin, Kan., and 11 in Linn County, he spent his lifetime in Jackson township, where he farmed until he retired. On Jan. 28, 1914 Mr. Herring married Miss Gertie H. Caddell in Chillicothe. In addition to his wife of the home, RFD 3, Chillicothe, 14 1/2 miles northwest of the city, he leaves a son, Richard Herring, Linneus; two daughters, Mrs. Naomi Buckner, Laredo, and Mrs. Virginia Fern Robers, Chillicothe; two sisters, Mrs. Laura McCoy, Chula, and Mrs. Katie Kilburn, Walnut Grove, Mo.; 14 grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Darrell Lee; a brother, and six sisters. Funeral services will be held at 2 o'clock Sunday afternoon at the chapel of the Norman Funeral Home with the Rev. Harry Clifton, minister of the Calvary Baptist church, officiating. Burial will be in the Plainview cemetery, near Chula.(The Chillicothe Constitution Tribune, Chillicothe MO: Nov 25, 1966, Pg. 1)
