Born on November 22, 1957 in Minter City, Mississippi, she the daughter of Nathan Jefferson and Cecil Purnell. She married Hosea Winters Jr. in Burlington in 1992 and they later divorced.
Sara was very family oriented and kept a close bond with her children. She loved spending time with her children and grandchildren. She also enjoyed dancing, cooking, playing dominoes and spades. She loved music, fishing for her favorite fish to catch, bluegills. Sara was very lively, the life of the party and the light in a bad situation. She was a person that anyone in her family could come to for advice and reassurance that everything would be ok. Sara was a giving person who would give anyone anything she had. She always showed hospitality to everyone and all of her children's friends loved being around her. The strength this woman has was amazing after all she had been through. She always made sure that everyone around her was alright and she never let anyone see her sweat. She was a member of Union Baptist Church.
She is survived by seven children, Casey Jefferson of Rockford, Illinois, Abdul Ragene Jefferson of Burlington, Iowa, Trayveon Jefferson of Burlington, Iowa, Desire Daville of Iowa City, Iowa, Vito Winters of Burlington, Iowa and Hosea Winters III of Burlington, Iowa; twelve grandchildren; one sister, Loisteen Farley of Kansas City, Missouri; four brothers, Louie Thomas of Burlington, Iowa, Leroy Jefferson of Burlington, Iowa, Bobby Jefferson of Kansas City, Missouri and Gentric Hicks of Ft. Madison, Iowa; and a host of nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Cecil Purnell; granddaughter, Tresara Jefferson; sister, Joyce Jefferson; four brothers, Jimmy Thomas, Willy James Jefferson, Nathan Jefferson and Ernest Jefferson.
Interment will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery at a later date.
