David served in the U.S. Navy where he served two tours of duty in Vietnam. After a short time with the San Jose Sheriff's Department in California, he began his work at United Airlines.
David moved his family from San Jose, California to Amboy, Washington in 1982 and then Yacolt a few years later. In 2006 Dave moved to Goldendale, Washington.
He retired from United after 40 years this past year. David also ran D&D Tractor for many years. It was a family business that at many times had his son David, son-in-law John, and grandson John-John helping out.
Dave always had a smile on his face for anyone and loved to joke around with people. He coached many years at North Clark Little League in Clark County Washington shere his children played ball. He loved being with his children and grandchildren.
David is survived by his children, Cindy Wolford, David Burkhart Jr. and Charlene Nino; son-in-law John Wolford and daughter-in-law Amanda Burkhart; grandchildren John-John, Hannah, Austin, Quentin, Westley, Wyatt and Lacey; siblings Danny Burkhart, Sharon Rodgers, Linda Newman, Margaret Burkhart, Paula Burkhart, Cathy Lovinggood and Philomena Rudolph.
David asked that his ashes be spread at sea and there will be a memorial at a later time to do this.
Memorial contributions can be made to Washington District 4 Little League at P.O. Box 5613, Vancouver, WA 98668.
