Death of a Pioneer
Died, in Canton, October 20. 1884, from a broken limb and old age, Mrs. Catherine Johnson, relict of the late Richard Johnson, aged 83 years, 2 months and 19 days.
Catherine Fouts was born in North Carolina, August 1, 1801 and was united in marriage with Richard Johnson in Indiana int he year 1819. About nine years later Mr. and Mrs. Johnson removed to Canton where they have since resided. Some eighteen years since, the deceased fell and dislocated a hip, since which time she had been a cripple, her death being hastened by the giving way, on Wednesday of last week, of her uninjured limb. During her fifty six years residence in Canton, Mrs. Johnson by her estimable qualities, gained numerous friends, many of whom preceded her to the higher life, while a large circle still remain to join in the sorrow of her immediate relatives. The deceased was the mother of ten children, eight of whom - five sons and three daughters - still survive her. She also leaves two sisters, Mrs. Harrison Putman and Mrs. Mary Ball and three brothers, Jacob, Andrew and ____ Fouts all of whom are residents of this county.
