John Stanley Koubek, 79, of Arnold, passed away on Dec. 14, 2009, at the Centennial Park Nursing Home in North Platte of natural causes.
John was born April 24, 1930, to Frank and Katherine Janesofsky Koubek of Arnold. He was the youngest of six siblings including Ray, Alvin, Arlen, Bob and Barbara. John attended school at Arnold and graduated in 1949.
In 1951, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served until 1955 in the Korean War. After John's discharge, he returned home where he married Mary Jane Dunker on Dec. 25, 1955, in Arnold. They had nine children over the next 20 years, Peggy, Joni, Bill, Deb, Skip, Phil, Bonnie, Connie and Shanon. John farmed and ranched around Arnold all his life where he helped raise his family and loved his home. He had a passion for hunting and fishing.
John is survived by his brother, Arlen; daughters, Peg (Ken) Myer, Joni (Dave) Grandel; son, Bill (Michelle) Koubek; daughter, Deb (Stan) Gembol; sons, Skip (Wendy) Koubek, Phil (Jennifer) Koubek; daughters, Bonnie (Chris) Fenney, Connie (Tony) Schultz; son, Shanon (Tori) Koubek; grandchildren, Brandon (Katie), KJ (Dawn), Heather (Zack), Zach and fiance Sarah, Zane and fiancé Sarah, Amanda, Jesse (Lezley), Cody, Dayna(Rowdy), Cuyler, Jennifer, Cody, Morgan, Lacey, Dalton, Cassidy, Clayton, Dalon, Josie, Jaden, Brittany, Hannah, Madison, Emily, Hallie, Grace, Natalie, Lliam and Olivia; and great-grandchildren Gage, Alex, David, Carson, Bailey, Jessica, J.W.; and many nephews, nieces, cousins; and in-laws.
John is preceded in death by his parents; Frank and Katty, brothers. Ray, Alvin and Bob; sister, Barbara; ex-wife Mary Jane; grandson, Jonathon; and two great-grandchildren, Brielle and Ashlyn.
Services will be at 11 a.m., today, with Father Antony Thekkekara officiating. Burial will follow at the Arnold Cemetery.
