He enlisted in the Marines after graduating from high school.
Richard arrived in Vietnam and was assigned to 1st Platoon of Fox Company, 2nd Battalion, 3rd Marine Regiment, 3rd Marine Division.
His cause of dead was due to friendly fire from a Beacon bombing accident, while Fox Company was in their night defensive position, about 15 kilometers North Northwest of Ca Lu Airfield. Four
other Marines died.
Richard had a couple of weeks left on his tour before he was due to rotate back to the states.
Richard was single.
Survived by his parents and a sister.
