W. P. Paxton, president of Southern Textile Company and Claussner Hosiery Company, died at 11 45 p. m. Saturday at River side Hospital.

He had bern ill for several weeks.
Mr. Paxton'a business career covered the fields of banking, railroading, journalism and manufacturing.

His first work was as a street car conductor in Paducah, from 1895 to 1998. From 1898 to 1914, he as office manager for E. E. Sutherland Medicine Company.

His industrial career began in 1914 when he joined the Southern Textile Machinery Company which manufactures a looper machine, used in the maklng of hosiery. He had been president of the firm since 1928.

He was also president of the Arcadia Hosiery Mills, now merged with Claussner's, and president and chairman of the board of Paducah Newspapers, Inc.. which publishes The Sun-Democrat. He was a director of the Citzen Bank and Trust Company, snd a director of the Chicago, St. Louis and New Orleans Railway Company, a-part of the Illinois Central System. Mr. Paxton also had served as chairman of the Louisvil!e branch, of the St. Louis Federal Reserve Bank.

Mr. Paxton was a Republican and was a member of the Paducah Rotary and, Elks Clubs. He served as pregsident of Rotary and as the first president of the Paducah Boy Scout Council. The Boy Scouts presented him with the coveted Silver Beaver Award.

Mr. Paxton, a native of Paducah was the son of William Francis and Frederica Fisher Paxton. He was educated in Paducah's public schools.

Mr. Paxton married Miss Flora Dicke on April 23 1902.

He was a member of St. Thomas More Catholic Church.

He is survived by Mrs. Paxton, a daughter Mrs. James R. Smith; two sons, William P. Paxton and Tomas A. Paxton; a brother, Edwin J. Paxton;; two sisters, Mrs. Nell Puryer and Mrs. Frederca Mitchell and six grandchildren.

Funeral arrangements have not been made. Friends may call at Roth Funeral Chapel. The family requests that flowere be omitted.

Southern Textile Company will be closed the day of the funeral.
