Burwell was hospitalized May 18th, and died of Typhoid Fever on June 10th at Booker's Factory Hospital, in Lynchburg, Virginia. He was buried the next day, and was due a sum of $62.03 by the Army.
He and his wife had at least one child, Mary Jane McClendon Bynum. She is on the 1870 Census with her mother, who married Joseph Phillips.
