David Clarence King, the son of Allen King and Rosella Clark, was born in Wapello County, Ia. οn the thirteenth day of December in the year 1884. He departed this life after a lingering illness at 505 University Street, Pella, Iowa, at the age of 71 years, 11 months and 20 days. Mr. King was a coal miner and was so employed in the area surrounding Foster, Iowa, until coming to Pella twelve years ago to reside near his children, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Van Ekeren, Jr.

On February 7, 1911, he was united in marriage to Avis Robinson who preceded him in death on August 4, 1934. Also preceding him in death were his parents, an infant sister, and a son Clarence who was killed in action during World War II.

He is survived by two daughters, two sons and seven grandchildren. The children are: Arthur of Cleveland, Ill., Cora Mae, Mrs. Clyde Bolton of Hamilton, Iowa, Margaret, Mrs. Henry Van Ekeren, Jr., of Pella, and Gerald of Bettendorf, Iowa.

He also leaves to mourn his death four sisters and one brother. They are: Mrs. Philip Edgeington of Marshalltown, Mrs. Earl Pickering of Ollie, Mrs. Allen Kuhn, Mrs. Howard Worth, and Thomas A. King of Ottumwa.

Funeral services were held on Thursday, December 6, 1956, at 1:30 p.m. from the Van Dyk-Duven Funeral Home. The Rev. Everett G. Ward officiated and interment was in the Eslinger Cemetery southeast of Albia. Music was rendered by Katherine De Koning as organist and Fred Whalley as soloist who sang "The Old Rugged Cross" and "Softly and Tenderly." Casket bearers were neighbors and friends of Mr. King.
