Emma was born to Delaware farmers, Joseph and Christina Higler, who were immigrants from Gottenburg, Germany. She was married to James Weems in the 1880s.

By 1895, the family was living in Kansas and had grown to 4 children. Their fifth child was born in Illinois. By 1900, the family had moved to Ottumwa, Iowa, where James was working for the brick yard. The family gained two more boys in 1902 and 1905.

James and Emma raised their family in Ottumwa while he worked for the brick yard for a total of 25 years. James died at age 75 and Emma died at age 72.

The one son who is not on Find-a-Grave:

***Carl Weems (b. ~1902) He married Hilda Thill on Oct 22, 1926 in Dubuque county, Iowa. Hilda's parents are Frank Thill & Mary Ash.
