On November 18, 1987 Corporal David Pulling, 31, a six-year veteran of the Delaware State Police was killed when an explosive device detonated at the F.B.I. Bomb Data Training Center, Redstone Arsenal, Huntsville, Alabama.
Corporal Pulling joined the State Police on September 8, 1981 and during his career was assigned to the K-9 unit, SORT Unit, and the Traffic Division at Troop 3, Camden.
David Pulling was born in Fort Lauderdale, Florida on January 22, 1956. He moved to Dover in 1968 with his parents, Richard and Jacqueline, and his brother, Richard, Jr. Corporal Pulling attended Dover High School and the University of Delaware. After graduation David worked with his brother, for four years, at the Petersburg, Virginia Police Department.
He moved back to Delaware in 1981, joining the Delaware State Police. Corporal Pulling was married to his wife Elizabeth in 1981 and was the father of two boys, George, his step son, and Jonathan. The boys were very important to Dave.

Members of the Delaware State Police Troop 3 are preparing to remember six of their fallen comrades in a solemn ceremony this week outside Camden.
The occasion will be the unveiling of a memorial stone for the troopers, all of whom have died in the line of duty over the past six decades.
Family members of the deceased troopers have been asked to attend, said police spokesman Sgt. Josh Bushweller. The ceremony is open to the public, he added.
The unveiling will take place at 3 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 10, at Troop 3 headquarters.
Those who will be honored include:
Sgt. Thomas Lamb (1901-1944), a U.S. Navy and Marine Corps veteran who became a trooper in 1927, only four years after the Delaware State Police was founded. Two of his sons later became state troopers. Lamb died of a heart attack at Troop 3 at the age of 43.
Trooper James D. Orvis (1916-1950), died in Boston, Mass., just after completing a medical course.
Trooper First Class William F. Mayer (1927-1955), had stopped a pickup truck for a burned out tail light when the truck was hit by an oncoming tractor trailer. Mayer died when he was pinned between the two vehicles.
Trooper William C. Keller (1947-1971), a member of the state police drug unit, was killed while en route to Dover when a truck pulled into his path.
Trooper George Emory (1946-1972), was a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War and recipient of the Bronze Star. He was killed while on his way to work when his vehicle was rear-ended on Route 13 near Harrington.
Cpl. David Pulling (1956-1987) was a graduate of Dover High School and the University of Delaware. He was killed when an explosive device blew up during training at the FBI Bomb Training Center in Huntsville, Ala.
