Mary Virginia Abbott
MELBOURNE, Fla. — Virginia Abbott of Melbourne died Thursday, March 1, 2012, at Wuesphoff Brevard Hospice in Viera, Fla. Virginia was born on Dec. 31, 1914, in Siloam to the late Clifford and Beulah B. Fields. She was married to the late Wilton Abbott for 53 years.
She was a member of Emmanuel Methodist Church in Melbourne and a former member of St. John's United Methodist Church in Fruitland. She was a former member of the Fruitland Fire Department Auxiliary and Homemakers in Fruitland. She was a 4-H Club leader for many years and a Cub Scout den mother. She retired from Deer's Head State Hospital.
She is survived by daughters Nancy A. Scott of Fruitland and Rose Marie Adkins and husband, Bill, of Melbourne and son Gregory V. Abbott and wife, Ruth, of Jupiter, Fla. She is also survived by grandchildren Clay Parker and wife, Pat, of Fallston, Md., Lynne Patton and husband, Les, of Hinesville, Ga., Susan Shives and husband, Phil, of Millersville, Md., Gary Adkins and wife, Teresa, of Douglasville, Ga., Roger Adkins and Brian Herring of Raleigh, N.C., Vincent Adkins and wife, Doris, of Melbourne, Jennie Young of Titusville, Fla., and Gregory V. Abbott II of Jupiter. There are nine great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her brothers Fulton Fields, Garland Fields, Stanley Fields and James Fields and their spouses.
A funeral service will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Bounds Funeral Home at 705 E. Main Street in Salisbury, where friends may call one hour prior to the service. The Rev. Paul Sherwood will officiate. Interment will follow in Siloam Cemetery in Siloam.
