Alta Zona Lewis, 85, left to be with the Lord on Friday, September 18, 2009 at Ball Memorial Hospital in Muncie. She was born on January 2, 1924 in Parmesville, Ky, the daughter of Albert and Gertie Dobbs and Stepdaughter of Roxie Dobbs.
On March 3, 1943 she married Marvin Lewis in Monticello, KY. Alta was a homemaker, loved gardening and spending time with her 19 grandchildren and 43 great-grandchildren. She had resided in Hagerstown prior to moving to Economy in 1976.
Survivors include her husband: Marvin Lewis; her children: Ralph Lewis (Nancy Poindexter) of Modoc, Roger Lewis (Janet Fisher) of Auburn, Carl Lewis (Debbie Hawley) of Kendallville, Cathy Stamback (late Mark Stamback) of Avilla, Ronnie Lewis (fiance Rita Brannon) of Remington and Vanessa Cross (Terry Cross) of Losantville. Her sisters: Marie Holiday and Ellamay Holiday and sister-in-law Louis Dobbs all of Muncie.
She was preceded in death by a son: Gerald Lewis; daughters: Joyce Lewis and Elizabeth Lewis; sister: Nellie Meyers; brother-in-law Oscar Meyers; and son-in-law: Mark Stamback.
Alta will be greatly missed as a wife, mother, grandma, great-grandma, sister, aunt and friend. the memories she left will last a lifetime and she will never be forgotten.
Funeral services will be conducted at 3 p.m. Monday, September 21, 2009 in the Culberson Funeral Home at Hagerstown, with pastor Hoyt Davis officiating. Burial will follow in West Lawn Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home from 1 p.m. until 3 p.m. Monday, September 21, 2009.
