Smith White Allnutt Jr., of Clarksville, died Nov. 29, 2007, of natural causes at his residence. He was 90.
Born July 21, 1917, in Seneca, to Smith White and Margaret Eleanor Waters Allnutt, he graduated from Sherwood High School, in Montgomery County, in 1934.
He married Margaret Gerhart in 1938.
Mr. Allnutt, who grew up in a farming family, bought a farm, called Hi-land Farm, in Highland in 1941. He and his wife lived there for 63 years. By 1950, he had modernized the dairy production and attracted visitors from all over the United States, as well as from 39 foreign countries. He had also built the first milking parlor in Maryland.
The farm was also used to give Howard County elementary students tours of the dairy production and go on hay rides.
Mr. Allnutt discontinued the dairy operation in 1967, and began raising prime beef. The farm was developed into housing in 1970. In 2003, he and his wife retired and relocated to a house in Clarksville.
He was predeceased by a sister, Fannie Waters Allnutt; and a brother, Plummer Allnutt.
Mr. Allnutt is survived by his wife of 69 years, Margaret Allnutt, of Clarksville; three sons and three daughters-in-law, Smith W. III and Patricia Dean Allnutt, of Warrenton Va., Fred W. and Joanne Armstrong Allnutt, of Ellicott City, and Matthew G. and Dale Freelander Allnutt, of Ellicott City; eight grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Dec. 3, 2007, at Harry H. Witzke's Family Funeral Home Inc. in Ellicott City. Fred W. Allnutt presided.
Interment followed at Crest Lawn Memorial Gardens in Marriottsville.
