Lois Freeman Jones, 95, of Floydada left this world to be with her Lord on Tuesday, Jan. 1, 2008.
She was born to John R. and Laura (Stone) Freeman on May 19, 1912 in Gunter, Texas.
She graduated from Gunter High School and later graduated from Texas Tech University in 1932. She earned her Masters degree from Tech in 1933. She taught Spanish, Latin, and English at Floydada High School for several years.
She married Dorris W. Jones on July 30, 1935, and their daughter, Linda, was born in 1939.
She was a long-time devoted member of the West Side Church of Christ. Her hobbies were gardening, reading her Bible, and enjoying her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Dorris, and her daughter, Linda Gay Jones Heflin.
Surviving family members are her sister, Jean Caddell, of Waxahachie; three grandchildren, Shawnda Greer and husband, Bart, of Floydada; Rick Heflin and wife, Brenda, of Floydada; and LaDonna Ellison, of Lubbock; six great-grandchildren, Tate and Blake Greer, Ty and Reagan Heflin, and Whitney and Lacey Ellison; a great-great grandchild, Bailey; and her son-in-law Rob Heflin and his wife, Edna, of Plainview.
Lois requested her body to be donated to research. The family will host an informal memorial service to be held on Thursday, Jan. 3, 2008 at 6 p.m. at Moore-Rose Funeral Home Chapel in Floydada. Visitation will follow.
The family suggests memorials be made to the West Side Church of Christ, Route 2 Box 172, Floydada, TX 79235; the Floydada EMS, 109 N. Main, Floydada, TX 79235; or the Multiple Sclerosis Society, 1031 Andrews HWY, Suite 201, Midland, TX 79701.
Services are under the direction of Moore-Rose Funeral Home of Floydada.
